California tax planning is about managing one of the highest state tax burdens in the country: the $800 minimum franchise tax, the LLC fee, the elective pass-through entity tax and high personal income tax rates. We plan entity structure, estimates and PTE elections early in the year.
NexusWorks is based in Torrance, in Los Angeles County, and works with businesses across California, from Los Angeles and Orange County to San Diego, the Bay Area and Sacramento. California has the highest top income tax rate in the country, a minimum franchise tax on most entities and separate agencies for income and sales tax, so planning matters. We provide bookkeeping, tax planning, compliance and Fractional CFO services to keep California businesses ahead.

Medical, dental and therapy practices in Los Angeles and San Jose get payer reconciliation and payroll support.

Yes. Most corporations, LLCs and limited partnerships that are registered or doing business in California owe the $800 minimum franchise tax each year to the Franchise Tax Board, even with no profit. LLCs with higher California gross receipts also pay an additional LLC fee. We build these payments into your tax plan.
California splits taxes across agencies: the Franchise Tax Board handles income and franchise tax, the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) handles sales and use tax, and the Employment Development Department handles payroll taxes. We coordinate all three through our tax compliance service.
California lets eligible partnerships, LLCs and S corporations elect to pay state income tax at the entity level, which can help owners work around the federal SALT deduction cap. Elections and prepayments have strict deadlines, so we plan them early in your tax plan.
Yes. We help e-commerce brands with multi-channel bookkeeping and sales tax tracking, and real estate investors with property-level reporting. See our e-commerce financial systems and real estate accounting services.
California has a graduated state income tax and a 7.25% base sales tax. LLCs here generally face an $800 minimum annual franchise tax and a Statement of Information every two years. Also note that district taxes push sales tax well above the base rate in many cities. We map which of these apply to your business and add each one to your compliance calendar.
Yes. Most California LLCs owe the $800 annual minimum franchise tax even with no profit, plus an LLC fee once California gross receipts reach $250,000. We plan these payments and file Form 568 for you.
