The short answer

What is a compilation?

A compilation is a financial statement service in which a CPA presents your financial information as statements in a chosen framework and issues a compilation report under SSARS AR-C 80. It provides no assurance — the CPA doesn’t verify the information.

A compilation presents management’s information without assurance. Prepared statements carry “No assurance is provided” on each page.

Three ways

Pick the format your reader expects.

All three are CPA-prepared. They differ in the report and disclosures.

AR-C 70

Preparation

Statements prepared under AR-C 70, marked “No assurance is provided” on each page. No report.

AR-C 80

Compilation

Statements with a compilation report under AR-C 80.

AR-C 80

Disclosures omitted

A compilation without full notes, when your reader doesn’t need them.

Framework

GAAP, tax basis or cash basis.

We’ll match the framework your lender or reader specifies.

GAAP

Generally accepted accounting principles — the most widely requested.

Tax basis

Statements on the basis used for your tax return.

Cash basis

Revenue and expenses when cash moves.

Where a compilation sits

CPA-prepared, without assurance.

If your reader asks for “reviewed” statements, a compilation won’t satisfy it.

No. A compilation provides no assurance; the CPA doesn’t verify or test the information.
