The challenge
The business was changing its accounting system and its reservation system at the same time. Finance needed GL mapping, balance sheet, profit and loss and trial balance reports from day one, but MYOB still had to run the old reservation flow until year end without double counting.
02
Our approach
- Cutover design. Business Central took only bookings from the new reservation system during the parallel run, while MYOB kept legacy bookings and other transactions.
- Configuration. Company partitions, chart of accounts mapping, dimensions and posting groups were configured from a checklist agreed with finance.
- Integration mapping. We documented how reservation bookings flowed into MYOB and rebuilt that flow in Business Central.
- Reporting from day one. GL code mapping and trial balance, balance sheet and P&L exports were built to the finance team's specification.
- Year-end cutover. MYOB closing balances at September 30 were migrated as Business Central opening balances, then MYOB was decommissioned.

Results delivered
- Business Central live on schedule with a controlled parallel run.
- Year-end cutover aligned to the September 30 fiscal year end.
- Finance reports available in Business Central from go-live.
- Legacy system retired with a clean opening trial balance.

Frequently asked questions
For a small to mid-sized business, typically three to six months, depending on integrations, data migration and whether a parallel run is used.
Many businesses migrate closing balances at a period end and keep the old system read-only for history. It costs less and lowers data risk.
A period when the old and new systems operate side by side, each for defined transactions, so the new system is proven before full cutover.
